Melinda Halford

ABOUT

Melinda Halford is a licensed physical therapist with more than 25 years of experience integrating science, the art of movement, and mindfulness into patient care.

She is the founder and director of Front Porch Physical Therapy & Lymphatics in Black Mountain, North Carolina, where she provides one-on-one, whole-person care in a focused, supportive setting.

CLINICAL APPROACH

Melinda’s approach blends orthopedic and neurological physical therapy with integrative and lifestyle medicine. She uses a person-centered, biopsychosocial model to address not only the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems, but also the lifestyle and emotional factors that influence healing.

Her work combines evidence-based rehabilitation with elements of yoga therapy, breathwork, and functional movement to help patients identify and resolve the root causes of pain or dysfunction. Each treatment plan is personalized, with an emphasis on education, self-care, and long-term wellness.

BACKGROUND AND PHILOSOPHY OF CARE

She holds postgraduate certifications in, McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy, Lymphedema Therapy, Integrative Lifestyle Medicine, and Medical Therapeutic Yoga.

Her clinical interests include spine and joint care, chronic pain, neurological rehabilitation, lymphedema (therapy for chronic swelling), ergonomics, and helping people return safely to yoga, dance, sports, and everyday activities.

Before founding Front Porch Physical Therapy, Melinda established and directed Skyland Physical Therapy in Asheville, one of the region’s early niche clinics for specialized PT and OT services.

Her career in healthcare was preceded by a professional life in the arts. With an undergraduate degree in Movement Therapy and a Master of Fine Arts in Dance and Choreography, she taught, performed, and choreographed throughout the Southeast. This lifelong connection to movement gives her a unique perspective on the body as both a scientific system and an expressive, adaptive instrument.

Melinda believes that meaningful healing begins with deep listening and a strong therapeutic partnership.

“All people have an innate ability to heal themselves,” she says. “My role is to help identify the root problem through thorough clinical diagnostics and create the conditions that allow healing to happen—through movement, awareness, and collaboration.”
