Person receiving a physical therapy or massage treatment on their leg from a therapist in an indoor setting.

ABOUT

Medical Therapeutic Yoga is a specialty certification for Physical Therapists who integrate a biopsychosocial approach to musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

Medical Therapeutic Yoga considers the 5 dimensions of wellness:

  1. Physical

  2. Emotional

  3. Social

  4. Intellectual

  5. Spiritual

We recognize that true healing requires a collaborative partnership between therapist and patient. Through a patient-centered model, care is guided by principles of integrative medicine and orthopedic expertise.

The PYT (Professional Yoga Therapist) certification equips the therapist to meet your needs by listening to the body and prescribing treatment based on the individual.

METHOD

Treatments are grounded in evidence-based yoga postures and breath techniques. These are informed by current biomechanical and neurophysiological research, as well as common mechanisms of injury.

The use of breathwork and core stabilization through simple functional movement is designed to treat pain, alignment issues, sleep and mobility issues.

Medical Therapeutic Yoga encompasses injury prevention, wellness, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, rehabilitation, and professional health and well-being, offering a comprehensive framework for recovery and long-term wellness.

Melinda Halford, PT, CLT, Cert. MDT, PYT is certified in Medical Therapeutic Yoga by the Living Well Institute offering the PYT (1500 hour) specialty certification to licensed health care professionals.
